Good Morning! Here’s a new piece I finished. It’s a carving inspired by a Polequaptewa tihu. Painted with all natural pigment paints. As per usual polequaptewa really didn’t give specific names to creations he made as he was protecting the identity of katsinim. As to why his tihus were so unique and different.

So in identifying this particular tihu in my own words I would call this a hisaat katsina. Meaning an old and unknown deity. Relating that it’s more of a mystery katsina as in the unique works of polequaptewa.

This is the first of this creation in the putsqatihu form. With the design of the raincloud and the three colors under the raincloud that represents the rain, rainbow and the four cardinal directions.

Height measures at 13 inches to the tip of the feathers and 7 inches wide. He is available. Please do message me further details and shipping. Kwa Kwai!! Thank you! Mahalo!

Newest carving to start off the year. Known as Ahola katsina-chief katsina.
This was inspired by an old black and white photo. My work is known for re-creating and doing research on katsinim I find in books and online of black and white photos.

Painted with all natural earth pigments. Started doing more of the contemporary oldstyle. As it’s the foundation of the contemporary style. Meaning using all natural earth pigments and materials found in the oldstyle carvings.

It’s a bit more work but definitely worth the outcome of my pieces. So more to come in this style. He is available if interested. Do message me for further info. Kwa Kwai!! Thank you!!

Well just wanted to share something exciting with you all. I’ll be sending off this piece to Ft. Lewis college for the “Return of the Force” exhibit. I was asked to be part of this exhibit by the bro . So I was happily humbled to accept. The exhibit will be at the Ft. Lewis college in Durango Colorado. Opening starts September 27, 2023-September 27, 2024.

The piece is titled-“The Resistance”

This is my very first piece I’ve carved in this style known as the “contemporary old style”. In this piece i used both my woodworking and carving skills. The entire pieces is used of natural earth pigments. I’ve only used one silver acrylic paint to paint the spear head. Materials have included Hawaiian sea shells, abalone, duck feathers, pheasant, black cloth, leather, and Hawaiian Koa for the stand.

Newest work! Sio hilili-Zuni hilili. Appeared in moenkopi around 20 years ago. Is one of my favorite tihus to make as it reminds me of my late grandfather Franklin. And the times we went to visit family in Zuni. He appears during the powamuya ceremony as well as during summer katsina dances when Hopi clowns are present. Carved from cotton wood root and painted with all natural earth pigments. He is available! For further info pleased do message me. Thank you! Kwa Kwai! Mahalo!
