Designer Gold Designer Gold is a small jewelry studio & gallery next to Dartmouth College, specializing in custom design, using recycled gold & conflict free diamonds.

Paul Gross, goldsmith and owner, has been making handcrafted jewelry in Hanover for nearly 50 years. Jewelry Studio and Gallery: Everything in our gallery is made here in our studio. Fine handmade jewelry by master goldsmith Paul Gross; excellent in-house fine jewelry repairs; watch battery replacement. Paul does mostly commission work -- designing your jewelry with you and then making it here in our studio. He has been in business in Hanover for over 44 years.

This past June, Paul created an emerald and diamond ring in 14 karat yellow gold for one of our customers. Each of the three 3mm emeralds has 3 round diamonds on either side tapering in size along the shank from 2.1mm to 1.3mm.

It's a wonderful take on eternity bands that have been so very popular recently.

Reflecting on a Piece Paul made years ago:
In 2003, a customer saw this gorgeous chrysoprase cabochon in Paul's collection of gemstones which, one day, he had planned to use in new jewelry designs. That customer asked Paul if she could buy it - yes - and would Paul create a pin for her with it? Yes, again. . . . And here it is.

Paul almost never forges pieces in our Hanover studio because hammering is too noisy. He make an exception this summer by coming into the studio when we were closed to make this gift.

This sterling silver ladle was cast from a real moon shell which we collected on the beach in Charlestown, RI. Paul forged the handle from a sterling rod and textured it with two different hammers.

Retro Earrings: Paul designed and created these in 1989. The Watermelon Tourmaline slices are framed by 14 karat yellow gold. They have wonderful movement even though they are post earrings. A customer saw the stones in the gallery and asked Paul to design some earrings for her. Voila!

We want Paul to be able to concentrate on you and your projects when you come in to design a custom piece with him - better one-on-one time for you with Paul. As we move toward retiring in 1 1/2 years, we want the custom experience to be as rewarding as possible!

In 2002, Paul designed and handcrafted this beautiful Drusy Quartz pin accented by three diamonds. He created it as a fundraising donation for the Hopkins Center. The stone was carved by Dieter Lorenz, a famous German stone cutter and is cradled in a 14 karat yellow gold frame. DG will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, and open for regular hours on Wednesday, July 15.

So much fun to look back at the pieces Paul made years ago. Here's one from 2002: a 14 karat yellow gold pendant featuring a Michael Dyber carved amethyst, strung on fresh water pearls with a white drop pearl to complete it.
