I love my job. I love coming to work. Everyday I learn something.
Yesterday this came across my desk- stopped in my track and dove in. This pearl and diamond necklace is lovely-elegant-smashing! But more importantly the pearls are natural black pearls. Not Tahitian cultured pearls like we would presume at first glance-but the kind that fabled fortunes were spent on. 1000 times more rare than white natural pearls, these would have come from the gulf of Mexico- very likely from the time of the conquistadors. Hoarded by the Royal families of Europe these pearls must have come from a treasured collection and reset in the 1960’s in platinum and diamond to be more “au currant”. Being the pearl aficionado that I am - I am doubly impressed the pearls are half drilled which translated to the fact this means they were never strung as a necklace perhaps a stomacher or a coronet? We will never know-but we can dream can’t we?
