My ancestors came over from Norway in the late 1800s and settled on the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior in Tofte, MN. Commercial Fisherman by trade, fish boxes were a big part of every day life. Commercial Fishing was not just a man's job, women played a large part in the effort. Assembling nets, cleaning fish, even helping out in the boat on the Big Lake. In the photos my family have kept
from this time, I can't help but be drawn to the beauty, elegance and strength of these early, Minnesota pioneer women.
