Sure, everyone knows and loves the GMT Master, Seamaster or Royal Oak. However, the collectors that know where to look will be treated to some incredible horological gems hiding in plain sight in our Spring Featured Auction catalog. From covert military-issued Seikos and historic dive watch reissues to high-complication modern horology, it might be worth taking a second look at these lots.

Lot #250 features a fascinating Seiko Olympic World Time, ref. 6119-8100, a model tied to MACV-SOG operations (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group) during the Vietnam War. Issued as sterile, untraceable equipment for some of the conflict’s most elite covert units (including Navy SEALs, Green Berets, Air Force, and Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance), these Seikos carry an incredible blend of military history and vintage tool watch appeal.

Lot #122 sits at the opposite end of the spectrum: a spectacular Montblanc Grand Chronographe Régulateur in 18K rose gold. While Montblanc wouldn’t be the first brand to come to mind for high-end watchmaking, this piece is powered by the impressive MB M16.29 monopusher chronograph movement and originally retailed for nearly € 100,000, this is a serious piece of haute horlogerie that deserves to be seen. It includes its original deluxe display box and gold Montblanc cufflinks.

Lot #284 is a standout for fans of iconic (and bold!) diver watches: the Doxa Sub 600 T-Graph Professional Limited Edition. One of only 150 of these reissues were produced with the quintessential orange Doxa dial, this chronograph diver pairs unmistakable styling with an especially desirable “007” serial number.

Lot #285 is another one for fans of rare dive watches – a black dialed Mido Ocean Star ref. 5907. While most collectors know the colorful decompression dial versions, this stealthy minimalist variant was produced in incredibly limited numbers. It’s a challenge to find one of these in general, let alone in such beautifully preserved condition.

The last gem is for Rolex lovers who have seen it all… or so they think. Lot #114 features 1928 Swiss Rolex travel watch housed in a sterling silver Rolex case with vivid tri-color enamel decoration. A perfect conversation starter when you’re at the cigar lounge and a reminder to those currently on a waitlist that Rolex history extends beyond the Oyster.

Our Head of Pocket Watches, Fred Hansen, is back to preview an exceptionally rare and fascinating “sun and moon” display verge fusee pocket watch by Cornelius Herbert of London from our Spring Featured Auction (Lot #192).

Housed in silver pair cases and measuring a substantial 58mm, this late 17th to early 18th century timepiece features a gorgeous display style that fell out of fashion not too long after it was produced. Rather than traditional hands, the signed silver champlevé dial displays the hour through a semi-circular aperture revealing a rotating blued steel disk decorated with sun and moon imagery.

The gilt movement is just as captivating, featuring a beautifully pierced and foliate engraved balance c**k with a small mask and perched birds hidden within the intricate detailing.

Our Head of Wristwatches, Tyler St. Gelais, is back to preview an exceptionally rare and historically important Movado Polyplan from our Spring Featured Auction (Lot #126).

Introduced in 1912, the Polyplan was one of the earliest wristwatches engineered with comfort in mind. It contoured to the wrist with a movement designed on multiple planes and was a far cry from the slabs people were used to strapping to their wrist. This complexity also meant the Polyplan was produced in lower volumes with only 1,500 or so examples estimated to have left the production floor.

This example retains its original silvered radium dial, articulated wire lugs, and even includes the original removed crystal which has become so heavily burned from radium exposure that the “12” and “6” numerals remain visible in the material itself.
