This is the sculpture my deceased father Tomas Dougi Jr. carved that gave me the inspiration to create this piece. His sculpture made it to the cover of beyond tradition. He named it The Long Wait and wrote this beautiful poem to go with it.

The warmth of her tears touched my heart on the eve of my long coldest night.
The wind whispered of the distance we will be at dawn.
Many sunsets we have seen from one another’s arms.
The midnight of your absence, the stars of the memories of your smile.
The horse I travel on will take me through the storm back to the place we departed, and together we shall see the sunsets and the moons yet to come from one another’s arms.
