Shop on! Hi everyone, welcome to my company Flame and Flamingo! My name is Sophie and I’m a 21 year old college student from Southern California. I started my company in 2016 at the age of 19 as a girl with a big dream who wants to make a name for herself and her brand. My journey began when I changed majors from business to interior design in the middle of my sophomore year. Being a business stud
ent just wasn’t for me as I’ve always been more artistically inclined. Changing majors meant taking more art classes and tapping into my creative side more than ever, and one day I was sitting at the dining table with my mom when I said “mom, do you think I could start a clothing company?” and she said “why not”. This got me thinking and starting to do a lot of research into what it was that I exactly wanted to do in the fashion world. I wanted a clothing line of my own design, but as we were in the middle of the school year, I didn’t exactly have enough time to figure out where to source my clothing from. While I couldn’t produce my clothing line yet, I started with something I could make at home, flower crowns. When flower crowns were at the height of their popularity, I used to order flowers and make crowns for myself since I could never seem to find ones I liked. A couple months later when I got my business licence, I started full scale crown production and getting my friends to model them for me to use as pictures on my website. March 2016, I launched my website with only flower crowns and that was a journey I will never forget. From then, my creativeness took off and I decided that I was going to start a jewelry line as well. With no experience or formal training in making jewelry, this was a big feat and I definitely learned on the job. I started primarily by making bracelets and then got brave enough to make necklaces. After I felt I had enough inventory, I started reaching out to my local community and doing farmers markets and local events to boost my brand name. Summer 2016, I took a trip to India and decided to source my clothing line from there until I have the time to dedicate to manufacture my clothes. Fast forward a year later, and I couldn’t be more happy to be my own boss and break into the fashion world with many of my own, handmade goods! I hope you guys like our brand and continue to help it grow for years to come!
