Last weekend we had the honor of being welcomed and recognized by local dignitaries and the Fredonia Community Chamber of Commerce alongside family and friends at our official ribbon cutting! Then we got to serve up some of our delicious libations to our guests and enjoy fantastic hors d'oeuvres courtesy of Dupers Catering! Thanks to all involved in the event and all who stopped in to check out DtB over the course of our "official" grand opening weekend! 🍻

A large barge, aptly named "Marge" by the community, arrived unannounced on a Dunkirk beach sometime on the night of August 30-31. Following much speculation on how it got to be there, it is now known that it broke loose from a tug during rough storm conditions overnight. The barge had just delivered windmill parts to Erie and was returning to Buffalo when they were caught in a gale. Waves in excess of four feet high were reported, and the cable just couldn't hold on. No people were on the barge when it broke loose.

Residents near Van Buren Point discovered the behemoth basking on the beach the next morning. By late afternoon, a crowd had gathered to watch Marge, as she shifted around the shore like a fat tuna flopping on the sand.

Yesterday evening, Coast Guard officials on site secured the barge to land by tying it to a large tree. They hope to begin a recovery operation of the vessel today.

You never know what you're going to find on the beach. A large barge washed ashore at some point overnight near Van Buren Point, in Dunkirk. It's unclear to us how it arrived there or what type of recovery process is needed to remove it.
