Unfortunate update:
I'm already noticing costs of certain staples going up, due to tariffs. While most of what I buy is intentionally from United States-based small businesses, certain things like ear hooks, etc, almost always come from Turkey, India, or China originally. Very little stone mining is done in the US compared to other countries as well, but I've not seen a significant rise in prices on that, yet.
One of the many issues with these tariffs; we just do not have the infrastructure in the US any longer to manufacture even the most basic things, so this will only get worse. Building manufacturing plants takes years and a lot of money, it's just not going to happen here within the next decade.
One of my suppliers has stopped shipping to the United States entirely, because of the tariffs. There was previously a "de minimis" exclusion for goods that were under $800, but that expires globally on August 25th.
Thankfully, 99% of my vintage components are bought in the United States, so overall, prices shouldn't be rising *too* much. We'll see.
I will also be needing to raise shipping/handling costs a wee bit. I'm going to start with an increase of 50¢ for now, but USPS has raised its rates by something like 35% recently, so it may need to be upped by $1 before end of year. I do use Pirate Ship to buy postage through, and they offer significant discounts, this is why I've been able to keep my shipping rates at $4.99 for a long time.
My sincerest apologies! I know money is not something anyone has, and I'm praying all of this doesn't put me out of business to some degree, like needing to get an out of the house job; I'm not even sure that would wind up making me money, given any job would require at least a 20 minute drive, meaning gas costs, wear and tear on the car, road closures due to inclement weather that would prevent me from getting to work, etc. Not to mention that the cats really do need someone to be home with them or they start to fall apart.
Annnnyway.
I made a bunch of new pieces this past weekend at DBQfest, had a terrific time in Dubuque, one of my favorite midwestern cities, and I think I'll have a handful of returning customers, I hope I hope! Those new pieces will get posted in the next couple days, photographing them today yet, and will get them up in whatever timeline my stupid nerve pain hands lets me. I'll keep you posted.
