Every week someone comes in and asks us: "What's the difference between 10K, 14K, and 18K gold? Does it actually matter?"
Yep, it sure does!
BTW - gold karat is the purity of the metal and refers to all colors of gold - white, yellow, rose, green!
Here's the short version:
10K gold is the most affordable now. The tradeoff though is it has more alloy metals in the mix, which can bother sensitive skin over time.
14K is the most popular karat in the US It holds up very well for daily wear, the yellow color is beautiful, and it doesn't hit your wallet as hard as 18K.
18K is the richest in yellow color and the purest, which actually makes it the better choice if you have metal sensitivities. It's softer though, so it's better suited for pieces that don't take a beating every day.
One more thing worth knowing right now: gold prices are a little high. So if you've got old jewelry sitting in a drawer that you never wear, bring it in. We cast all of our jewelry right here on-site using recycled, purified gold, so your old pieces can become something new, and offset the price!
