Subject: J/111 North Americans
Shane Vanstrom here from the J/111 NAs committee. I wanted to reach out and gauge your interest in attending the North Americans in Youngstown, NY.
We’re currently at 16 registered with a 17th verbally committed—pretty awesome. This is shaping up to be the largest North Americans on record, second only to the 2018 Worlds. Our goal is to get 20 boats on the line this August.
We’ve been trying to eliminate as many of the usual headaches of traveling with a 37’ race boat as possible—and let’s be honest, that list is long and creative. Here’s what we’ve got lined up so far:
• Four J/111 trailers available, with owners willing to send out to help move boats
• Flat-rate $1,000 program for mast up, launch, mast down, and reload
• Free trailer/tow vehicle storage
• Free docking
• Dedicated space for equipment trailers
• Blackrock Boat Works on site with a rigging trailer + sailmaker support for overnight turnarounds
• A local travel advisor helping teams with lodging, cars, and logistics (free of charge)
• Crew lunches available for purchase through local partners
We’re also putting a push behind the Corinthian fleet to attract new teams. The Youngstown Yacht Club has commissioned a new pewter cup to recognize the top Corinthian boat, and the goal is for it to become a standing class trophy.
And while it’s not the official reason to attend, we’ll also have solid entertainment, bands, and plenty for families and crews to do off the water. Speaking as a dad of two, that part matters.
We are getting close to that 20-boat goal and are fired up about this event. Really appreciate any thoughts and consideration in joining us this summer!
