I really hoped to never have to make a post like this ever but we all know it happens eventually.
For the last nine months or so my mom has been in and out of the hospital, mostly for severe UTIs. Yesterday my brother went to give her her meds in the morning and couldn't wake her up, she was breathing and all he just couldn't wake her up so he called an ambulance, the EMTs told his she was responding to pain and that was a good sign. They took her to the ER and 3 hours later they told us they had done a CT scan to verify no stroke or head injury and it was negative and she had woken slightly during the process, she was able to squeeze hands and whatnot bit wasn't very verbal. They admitted her and got her into a room where she woke up a bit around 5pm and was in and out for a bit. I think it was around 10pm that they decided she needed to go to the ICU where she could be watched more closely, they saw that something to do with her lungs had collapsed on one side at that point as well. When the ICU doctor came to talk to my brother and I we were told she likely wouldn't make it through a surgery and they could offer her "comfort care". A few minutes past midnight my mom passed. I held her hand and told her how much I loved her. My mother was fiercely loyal and never one to mince words, probably where I get it from, when my brother and I did something stupid I promise you she was the first one to make sure to tell us. My heart is shattered, I've lost my best friend, we talked nearly everyday and you have no idea how hard it is to not pick up the phone to talk to her about this. The photo is her wedding anniversary gift from her 25th or 30th anniversary.
I cannot truly express how incredibly empty and lost I feel right now. I just hope my mom was proud of me. Please hug and kiss your loved ones while you can and tell them you love them as often as you can, you never know when they won't be there anymore.
I love you mom. ❤️ 💔
