We are very aware of the current political climate
We stand with The Garden and understand their tough position
We are staying up to date with current legislative movement
We will continue to move forward until we are stopped
We will NOT put our youth in ANY danger, EVER
- Security measures have been added, we have paid for security
We will NOT allow our safe spaces to be put in any danger, EVER
- We will sadly cancel, before we will put the venue in jeopardy
If the time comes, and we are forced to shut down the pageant, we will notify you all here on our page and through social media. Right now, we are holding onto hope and putting positive thoughts out that we will overcome this. We want to continue to push on, in hopes of giving a little spark of hope for our youth. We know that you are just as confused and lost without us, as we are without you. We have worked too hard to secure these safe spaces to be told that THEY aren’t safe, that WE aren’t safe, that YOU aren’t safe.
Your reigning CIYP queen, Fiona Kills (with mother Brandi Chasar), your reigning Capitol City Pride Teen, Lonika LaReese Knight (with mother Karen Stanley), First Alt Baby Ball 2025, Ryker Fuller and myself (Ann Squier-Hammond), have personally been at the state Capitol, fighting the drag ban legislation and others nearly every day during these past few weeks. We have been on the news, speaking with people on how these new laws are affecting the LGBTQIA community, just like we have always promised our youth we would. We have continued to stay in contact with One Iowa to determine where we go next. I have made it a personal mission to pursue a legal injunction with the ACLU and Lambda Legal since our state attorney general refuses to step in. We will make it through this together! Please, don't give up hope on the all ages shows. This is not over yet. I WILL NOT STOP FIGHTING FOR YOU!
As of right now, the pageant is STILL HAPPENING. We are NOW officially accepting applications! We had to ensure that we could still hold the pageant and also ensure the safety of all those involved. Please be mindful of how you and where you share this for the safety of all involved but please do share it! For applications or more information, reach out to Ann Squier-Hammond or Formaro. The contest is April 12th. Applications are due April 5th.
