Five things to know about the health care fight behind the Government shutdown

Please call your representatives and request to extend the premium tax credits for the ACA marketplace

There’s bipartisan support in Congress for extending tax credits that have made health insurance more affordable for millions of people since the COVID-19 pandemic.

These changes will be painful for millions of Americans enrolled in ACA plans due to the "Big Beautiful Bill". Expect general rate increases of 15% to 20% or higher depending on where you live due to constantly rising costs to deliver health care in our country. THEN, the bill swoops in and expires the "American Rescue Plan Act" from 2021 causing assistance to federal tax credits to decline.

The term "Sticker Shock" will be used often to describe the effects as fewer households will be eligible for subsidies (discounts) as the bill raises the income threshold. For those still eligible the bill also reduces the subsidies available from what's been given over the last five years.

Then of course new TARRIFS will be directly responsible for increasing the cost of medical supplies and equipment and raising Prescription medication prices for everyone. A triple whammy if you will, leading to millions of people forgoing health insurance altogether and ultimately not obtaining necessary health care services.

IF this information upsets you for any reason or especially if your household might be affected by these changes, I urge you to call your elected officials to complain and have your displeasure recorded to put pressure on those that have created this outcome.

Consumers face both rising premiums and falling subsidies next year in Obamacare plans, with insurers seeking increases to cover not only rising costs but also some policy changes advanced by President Donald Trump and the GOP.

Top 5 reasons to consider a private health insurance plan instead of COBRA or the ACA Marketplace....

5 - BETTER PROVIDER NETWORK : Full statewide and nationwide PPO including UC Health vs. small metro area HMO or EPO. It's also portable if you travel or relocate to another state.

4 - LOWER OUT-OF-POCKET EXPOSURE FOR MAJOR MEDICAL: Enjoy a very low or even no deductible to pay for expensive services like hospitalization, surgeries, injury repairs, transplants or rehabilitation including an unlimited lifetime benefits maximum.

3 - BETTER ROUTINE HEALTH AND WELLNESS BENEFITS: Zero deductible required for primary and specialist office visits, prescription medications, diagnostics, Urgent Care, annual physical exams, health screenings and even chiropractic visits.

2 - LOWER PRICED BILLING FOR ALL MEDICAL CARE: Robust medical repricing thanks to strong contractual network discounts.

1 - LOWER MONTHLY PREMIUM (Hallelujah!) : Pay less for better coverage and see the savings multiply if you have two or more people in your family.

I wanted to reach out again with an update, and to offer any support or advice that I can regarding health insurance during these historically challenging times. I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and safe.

Currently so many people are experiencing an employment change in one form or another from being furloughed to laid off to termination which affects a particularly important aspect of our lives, our health insurance coverage. Some of these changes come with the ability to continue the employer plan in the form of COBRA, which is a nice guarantee but most people are quickly shocked to learn the very high monthly price they'll have to pay to keep it. These plans often have very high deductible requirements for most services (HSA) so in addition to the high premium you may be required to shoulder a significant up-front financial responsibility for any medical services.

If your employment situation has changed and you're either losing insurance coverage or facing the high cost of COBRA, contact me now to discover if you're eligible for other health insurance options. If your family is healthy you could qualify for a Private Health Insurance plan that could significantly lower your monthly premium and improve your coverage. The Coronavirus situation serves as an important reminder that we just cannot predict when we might become very sick or injured, but we can protect ourselves from financial distress or bankruptcy due to medical bills.

I'm more than happy to review your current policy or COBRA option to evaluate your out-of-pocket exposure and cost. I would love to answer your questions and facilitate any changes or improvements you'd like to make with your current coverage or establish new health insurance and additional layers of protection. This can all be done with no cost to you and might actually lower your monthly premium as well so please contact me to schedule a call and consultation.

So many Coloradan's were affected by this dilemma, It's great to see our legislature responding to the problem and creating a solution. Our state watched four insurance companies dissolve last year.

When Friday Health Plans went belly up in August last year, it didn't just leave 30,000 Coloradans without health insurance.
