Hans Kohagan well thats not exactly 100% true. In a way it is but the real reason for the higher oil content for older saws is the lack of knowledge of oil technology. Since the 60-70’s, oils have gained tremendous improvements in additives, making them far better which has led to less usage. Just compare the 2stroke oils to your car engine oils, vast improvements. Metal improvements have also helped vastly. The older Mac, Homies had steel cylinders, now we have chrome, Nickel- silicates that are very hard. These metals take less lubricants for rings to slide freely over, result= less oils. Then comes synthetics, many dont know what or how this lubricant works but in a very basic sense, its microscopic beads, these roll causing even less friction so again, less needed. Ring technology also has improved, from simple steel or cast iron to highly improved cast iron which is harder, yet porous to hold l**e and more spring tension to hold shape. The older saws used non-detergent oils, 30wt mainly, these would burn at far lower temps than our oils of today.

I'd hate to have to sharpen that one ! Hahaha
