A note to our customers about gold & silver pricing right now:

Centerville Coin & Jewelry has been buying and refining scrap gold and silver for over 50 years. Through booms, busts, recessions, and record highs, this business has always followed a familiar rhythm: metal moves, refineries process it, and customers are paid fairly and efficiently.

What’s happening right now is different — and it’s not unique to us.

Across the country, coin dealers and jewelry buyers are facing the same constraints. Even as gold and silver prices reach record levels, the physical metal system is under significant strain. Refineries that normally process scrap gold and silver are backed up, limiting intake or prioritizing large industrial and bullion contracts. In many cases, they are out of funds to purchase scrap or to issue advances.

This creates a bottleneck affecting the entire industry.

What this means for sellers everywhere:
* Scrap metal that once moved quickly may now take weeks or months to process
* Advances and fast settlements are extremely limited, reducing how much dealers can buy
*Spot prices reflect paper trading, not the real-time cost and capacity of refining physical metal
* Liquidity — not value — is the primary challenge in today’s market

In simple terms:
High prices do not automatically mean easy or immediate selling. Because this is an industry-wide issue, all coin dealers and jewelry buyers are being forced to pay less than spot to operate responsibly — regardless of experience, reputation, or size. This isn’t about reluctance to buy or fairness; it’s about managing risk in a system that is temporarily out of balance.
