My Story

I came to beading slowly, and relatively late in life. I did not start because I wanted a new profession, but for the very mundane reason that I was allergic to base metal and could not keep buying silver and gold jewelry. So I started stringing a few beads for myself, simple anklets and necklaces…and soon became bored with all of it. I started looking for books and magazines that would show me more possibilities, and a whole new world opened up. Beads were making a comeback just then (25 years ago), and resources were starting to multiply. Then people started asking me to make something for them, based on what I was wearing…

From there, it became a passion I didn’t know I had: more than the finished product, which is always exciting to get to, it is the process that really satisfies the need for my creativity to go unbridled. There are no rules, no ‘musts’, the whole thing is entirely up to me and my imagination: It makes for a very liberating activity! Since profit is not the main incentive, I can create what I really want to, not what the market dictates, and that makes it easy to continue to do it, even when sales are occasionally slow. Being free form the economic pressure to produce what sells also makes my jewelry stand out as unique: striving to create something artistically different from the average jewelry out there is exactly the force behind my creative process. The process of transforming little pieces of color into wearable art is the other driving force, besides being a constant source of joy. And, cherry on top, my jewelry sells well!
