So many beautiful pieces passed through my watchmaking desk during 2025. Just can't get this one out of my mind. Finished up near the end of the year, a truly special example of a Turler signed Universal Geneve Tri-Compax Moonphase. Dial looks too good to be true but it's all legit. I think I'm smitten and want one.. maybe I'll sell my Reverso to raise the funds hmmmm πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

Just finished an overhaul on this Universal Geneve 281 movement, including the previously mentioned fix for the bent minute wheel. Isn't she prettyyy? 😍😍 The Universal Geneve 281 is a seriously cool movement. Dating from the 1960s, this beauty features a 3 register chronograph (hours, minutes, seconds), a triple calendar (month, day, date), and a moonphase. I think I'm in love πŸ₯°

Repairing the "unrepairable" Omega 1128 GMT hour wheel. This is a special part designed by Omega for their GMT movement, and it is comprised of 4 parts. The tiny spring inside the wheel commonly breaks during normal use and now that Omega holds a monopoly on their parts, this part is not available to independent watchmakers. I discovered a way that the wheel can be split open (see second pic) and the spring itself can be replaced independently. This repair can be done without using Omega parts or tools. Most watchmakers consider this part "unrepairable" πŸ˜‰

People often ask me "what scares you" in terms of watchmaking... How about a vintage Universal Geneve 281 (Tri-Compax chronograph with moonphase) minute wheel with a ridiculously bent pinion. The pinion is so bent it prevents clean chronograph resets. Parts are nowhere to be seen, a part movement is upwards of $1000. I have to figure out a fix with what I have, and get it right the first time, there's zero room for mistakes. Ya, that scares me. Over the years I've broken many of these trying to correct them, but now I'm fairly good, the key is to apply consistent heat from a torch to a pin vise holding the pinion, pressure is then applied slowly (over 5 minutes or so) in tiny increments to bend the pinion back. It's super risky and delicate and takes a ton of experience, too much heat it melts, too little heat it breaks. First picture is before, last picture is after. It is much straighter now πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

A few of the watches on the bench at the EmmyWatch workshop in the last few weeks. Sometimes my job is so awesome 😍😍😍 Enicar Sherpa Super-Dive, 1968 Omega Speedmaster Pre-moon with an original 321, Universal Geneve Tri-Compax Moonphase, Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute. It's always a pleasure to work on such amazing pieces.

Ughhh, this kind of stuff drives me crazy. Why do "watchmakers" glue the dial to the movement! 😀😀😀😀 it would be one thing if the movement is a NH35 or something, but this is an original pre-moon 1968 Omega 321! Please for the love of god, respect the movement, the watch, the history--fix it properly. Don't take your highly valuable historical pieces to your neighborhood jewelery guy. Please. Please. Please. Rant over 😀😀😝😝

Landeron Hahn 2 Monopusher circa 1930s. Just finished restoring this beauty for a customer. These monopushers are incredibly rare these days so I wanted to show you how it works. Audio on ☺️

Full restoration done! 1930s-early 1940s Landeron Hahn 45 minute monopusher chronograph. Landeron Hahn caliber 2, column wheel design. This beauty is huge too, almost 40mm in diameter. I had to put many hours into this job, including extensive corrosion removal and part refinishing, custom made springs to replace the worn out ones, hammer adjustments, hairspring and balance repairs, countless snapped screws repaired, dial repairs, case repaiea minute jumper brazed, etc etc, one of the biggest jobs I have done for a customer. But wow! What an awesome result. Everything works like new and it runs surprising well. A 85+ year old watch that's now ready for daily wear again in 2025 😍😍😍😍 Added a little jazz music for period appropriateness πŸ˜„

It's always important to check mainspring specifications when servicing vintage watches! I've spent years collecting movement data and have posted it all on the EmmyWatch Database so that it's available to everyone. While servicing this Universal Geneve 262 I had a feeling the mainspring was incorrect... Anddd I was right. Using my trustly and highly precise Mitutoyo micrometer, I was able to see that this mainspring was 0.10mm too small in the height dimension. Time to order a new one!

Absolutely one of my favorite watches on the EmmyWatch Store. A total sleeper--I love it. However, this watch is now off to its new owner, congratulations! This 1950s era Lemania has an amazing movement and history behind it. Powered by the Lemania 3600 movement (see second pic!), Lemania's first full automatic movement--can you believe I managed to get this beauty running at less than 5s error per day, and yes it's from the 1950s! Yes JLC is rightly known as the watchmaker's watch brand, but might I add Lemania in there too?!? Such a special piece of history ❀
