Here’s a closer look at the rose quartz and peridot pendant that I posted on Monday. ✨

“I await the smell of blossoms,
my eyes entranced
vines envelope my being…”

General maintenance of rose quartz includes:

- limiting the stone’s exposure to sunlight as the color can fade in time
- clean using a soft brush, mild soap and luke-warm water
- avoid harsh chemicals (lotions and perfumes)
- no ultrasonic cleaners

I know it isn’t springtime, but I can’t not post a pink/green combo.

This pendant reminds me of a garden, forest fae, and that year-round springtime soul who follows their own seasons.

Let’s talk about the symbolism of rose quartz through time:

In Ancient Egypt, it was typically a talisman that represented youth and beauty and was placed in tombs to accompany the deceased in the afterlife.

In Greek and Roman mythology, it was considered to be a link to Aphrodite and Adonis and symbolized eternal love and passion.

It was (& still is to my understanding) used in Chinese medicine & Feng Sui practices for its calming energy and ability to attract positive relationships.

During the the Medieval and Renaissance periods, it was believed to ward off evil spirits, bring healing, and was used in religious and ceremonial settings as it symbolized purity and compassion.

In modern times, it is considered to be the “Stone of Universal Love”.

These earrings needed a zoom-in feature because I can’t get over how beautiful there are. ✨

There are times where the jewelry I make comes out pretty close to how I imagined it in the drafting process. As for the last few years, I have surprised myself a few times when the final piece turns out so much more than what I imagined and cannot help but become overwhelmed by it (imposter syndrome is a diva in my life, to say the least).

These earrings are definitely one of those projects.

To be fair, seeing a lot of content creators wearing the same exact jewelry has me bored with the social media feeds. So, if you want something different that can’t be found anywhere else, here’s some options on where to buy my handmade jewelry:

1. Online : Check out my website www.oceanmaidendesigns.com to purchase directly from me.

2. In person : Visit my little corner of artsy heaven in the new Creative Cahoots shop that is opening October 17, 2026 in Corpus Christi, Texas .

For a gemstone that can be found in the gemstone market so easily (in my opinion), there seem to be so many imitations.

-glass imitations often have bubbles or swirl marks
-plastic imitations are usually lighter in weight and can be easily scratched (I thought of resin based “stones” when I read over this topic)
-composite stones may show seams where the pieces are bonded with adhesive

Let’s talk about the 4 C’s when it comes to Rose Quartz :

Color - deeper vibrant hues are more valuable

Carat - larger, high quality stones are more valuable

Clarity - transparent with rich color is most sought after

Cut - crystalline typically demands higher price, but generally well cut and polished stones are better than those that are rough with poor finish

Did you know that rose quartz has been mined right here in the United States?
One of those places would be the Scott Red Rose Quartz mine in South Dakota, documented in the 1880s and why it has been named the official state mineral stone of South Dakota. I am curious to see what the impact was on the indigenous tribes (Lakota, I believe specifically) in that area, but have not found much as of posting beyond the breaking of the Treaty of Fort Laramie in 1868 when gold was found in the same region.
A rabbit hole for another day I suppose…

More places where rose quartz is mined:
Brazil - leading world producer with high quality deposits and is considered the source for a steady supply for the global market

Madagascar - unique shades of pink and asterism

India - warmer pink tones

Namibia - rich coloration, sourse for occassional rare formations

Other notable sources include Sri Lnka, Mozambique, and Germany

Rode quartz is named based on its coloration due to traces of titanium and microscopic inclusions of aligned silicate mineral fibers (= cloudy rose quartz). It is typically found in a “massive form” and typically lacks regular flat crystal faces. It is found in pegmatites and can occur in hydrothermal vents. Transparent rose quartz, or crystalline rose quartz, is named due to well formed crystals. The inclusions found in rose quartz can create a six-rayed star shape if it is cut correctly. Exposure to natural light can cause the color to fade, but can be “brought back” via irradiation.

It’s tough being pink, I suppose.
