💡 PERMANENT JEWELRY PRO TIP: NEVER PUT AN UNTESTED CHAIN ON A CLIENT

Just because a chain is labeled for permanent jewelry doesn't mean you should take it straight from the package and put it on a client.

Test it first. Every new chain. Every new batch.

Different link sizes, metals, thicknesses, and manufacturing batches can behave differently when welded.

Before adding a new chain to your client selection:

⚡ DO A TEST WELD
Use a small scrap piece and determine the power setting that gives you a clean, secure weld without damaging the link.

🔍 CHECK THE WELD UNDER MAGNIFICATION
A weld can look closed to the naked eye and still have a tiny weak point.

💪 DO A GENTLE STRENGTH TEST
After welding your sample, test the connection. You want to know how the jump ring and chain behave before it's on someone's wrist.

⭕ TEST YOUR JUMP RING SIZE
Your usual jump ring may not be the best choice for every chain. Make sure it moves freely through the link without being unnecessarily large.

✨ WATCH THE CHAIN ITSELF
Does it twist? Stretch? Catch easily? Are delicate components bending? These are things you want to discover during testing—not after you've sold it.

📝 WRITE DOWN WHAT WORKED
Keep a simple reference for each chain with the jump ring size, metal type, welder setting, and any special notes.

⭐ PRO TIP: When you receive a new shipment of a familiar chain, visually inspect and test a piece before assuming it will behave exactly like your previous batch.

Taking a few minutes to test your supplies can mean:

✔ More consistent welds
✔ Less wasted chain
✔ Fewer repairs
✔ Faster appointments
✔ More confidence behind your welder
