I had so much fun learning how to make a copper cuff bracelet at the Brevard county Rock and Gem club Maker Moment today.

These sessions are open to members and non-members.

In this session, we made a copper cuff bracelet using simple refrigerator copper tubing – turning an everyday material into a beautiful piece of jewelry that’s uniquely ours.

We learned how to:

Anneal the copper to soften it

Texture the metal — this is where we added our own personal touch to the look and feel of the piece

Shape and size the cuff to fit your wrist

Sample bracelets were provided for design inspiration. I liked the hammered look so that's what I chose to make.

We started with cutting the refrigerator copper tubing to about 6 inches.

Then we flattened it out with a hammer.

All tools were provided, some people used the rolling mill. For my texture I used the ball-peen hammer.

Then I filed the edges of the bracelet to ensure they were nice and smooth.

I had to anneal the copper a few times to soften it.

Then I used the mandrel to shape my bracelet and finished with polishing. I like the matte look so I did a light polish on the outside edges and polished the inside a bit as well.

Creating wearable art is so much fun and I love learning new skills and techniques!
