In 30 years of selling & buying gemstones I’ve never encountered a Spinel this color. Sure, I’ve had greenish blue Spinels but they were always dark in tone. This Spinel is blue/green in a bright medium dark tone that is closer to medium than dark & eye clean. It is from a new find in Madagascar.

This stone looks good under all lights I’ve seen it under, but it just pops in sunlight. It becomes brighter & more vivid. A color I just cannot quite get my camera to capture but it looks like no other Spinel I have ever seen. In other light it shoots off loads of dispersion.

The Spinel comes with two reports. One from the American Gemological Laboratories (AGL) the most respected colored gemstone lab in the USA & one of the most respected labs in the world. This color of Tourmaline is rising very fast in price the last three years. Just yesterday of this writing I was quoted $2200 per carat from a Peshawar dealer who contacted me on Instagram for a Lagoon Tourmaline the same color & size! Crazy price, but I’m seeing that more & more. So, here I am offering this stone for $900 per carat. The price increases remind me very much of what happened with Red Spinel after the Mahenge find.
