We made John Kucko Digital's pictures into postcards😁

Celebrating the Steam Engine—A Portageville Train Tribute: With the massive Union Pacific “Big Boy” steam locomotive set to roll through Western New York in June, I provided my top five Letchworth State Park train captures at the bridge there for the Glen Iris Inn to produce postcards of. The Inn is officially open for the season as of today and has these for sale in their gift shop. I’ve captured too many trains to count passing through that spot in the last 12 years or so, picking a top five was a challenge. “Big Boy” will be passing through Letchworth on June 11th as it travels from Buffalo to Binghamton and beyond. The best views to see the train from a safe distance are actually not at the park, but at various spots along the route. Safety is paramount and people must not trespass.
The steam train will use Norfolk Southern’s Southern Tier line as it passes through this part of New York State. On June 10th—the eve of the steam train excursion—I’ll be doing a special presentation at the Inn as they’re putting together a very unique dinner menu to commemorate this highly anticipated event. I’ll present some of my favorite moments of the trains crossing the Genesee River gorge through recent years there. Will post more details on this in due time. This will be a VERY fun few days in June as the “Big Boy” makes various stops as it travels east.
