The smaller the instrument, the more that debris will affect the mechanism and intonation. Use a soft paintbrush or toothbrush to GENTLY remove dust, which is what I am about to do to this oboe.

That's not a rod, mate. THIS is a rod. An actual, literal, honest-to-goodness rod that I extracted from a Vito plastic contrabass clarinet. It's ridiculous. And prone to damage, as you can imagine.

Check this out! There is a pin hole where the key arm meets the key cup in this old clarinet. When I heated the key to adjust the pad, some pad glue leaked out. It probably happened during production when someone was cleaning up the solder seam and went overboard with filing and polishing. I don't know what you will do with this information, but there it is.
