Jim's start in business was in 1974 selling necklaces and bracelets off the seat of his motorcycle at various locations in Tempe, usually close to the college which lead to selling at the local swap meet. As his business and customer base grew Jim managed to open Mill Avenue Jewelers on Mill Ave in Tempe, AZ. After many years in the city, Jim decided that a quieter town would suit him better. The
search was on....Camp Verde had the charm of a small town without any jewelry store and property that was right on Clear Creek ready and waiting for him to purchase. While working on his home Jim took his jewelry to fairs and rodeos. In 1988 he opened Lawson's Jewelers in "The Wingfield Store" where he worked during the fall and winter and did shows from late spring to early fall to supplement the income during the hot months. Jim & his family has been in business in the Verde Valley ever since 1988. Besides Lawson's Jewelers other names that might be familiar are, Fort Verde Merchantile, Sutler's Jewelers & Trading Post, and Laid Back Jewelry & Trading Post.
