Bialo Padin Designs Bialo Padin Designs specializes in handmade jewelry, accessories, and tools. Commissions are welcome I am a Brooklyn-based metalsmith.

I make and design hand fabricated jewelry and accessories, using silver, gemstones and other materials. I also do custom work, designing and making fine jewelry, using gold and gemstones for special occasions. Because I am also an avid knitter, I make accessories and tools specifically for the fiber community, including shawl pins and handmade cable needles.

We’ve recovered from Rhinebeck and I’ve completed my post-show inventory. Still need to vote and add more items to my Etsy shop. But then we are off on our next adventure. It is time for a studio break. We’ll be singing, playing music, dancing and seeing friends. And, given the forecast and the time of year, getting rained upon. Not a big deal when the scenery is gorgeous. All orders after 10/27 will be shipped by 11/18. Here’s the link to my shop: https://bialopadindesigns.etsy.com. I’m not sure I’ll get everything done before we leave, so if you see something you like on my IG page but I haven’t listed it yet on Etsy or EBay, send me a DM, and I’ll make it a priority on our return. enters which is challenging when you run your own business…

The best comment I overheard at Rhinebeck. Funny and full of common sense. I love fiber shows because there are so many “fiber rabbit holes” to go down. People knit, crochet, spin and weave all over the world, and techniques vary. I learn so much from my customers when they talk to me about the techniques that interest or inspire them. I’ll probably never try most of them, but I love learning about them. And I’m happy to design and make tools for my customers so that they can comfortably enjoy mastering the techniques that interest them. I’ve got a running list of requests from customers for different tools with specific features/dimensions. Frankly, I just enjoy learning about what other people find interesting. Someone stopped in the booth and I learned about the challenges of women’s barber shop quartets (try finding low voices!). Another customer told me about a travel company that leads trips to Portugal to teach Portuguese style knitting and the history of Portugal’s textile industry; the same guides also lead 🔔 bell ringing tours throughout Europe (because they are both into bell ringing). There are so many rabbit holes to go down in this life! And I want to know about them!

Thank you, angelina, for purchasing one of my ! And if I knew the name of the fiddler wearing one of my pins outside the Jalopy Theater last night, I’d thank you as well (she’s got several of my pins). It is lovely to see my work out in the world!

My plans for the foreseeable future. NYsheepwool: our sincere thanks to all of the organizers, supporters and volunteers for such a well run show! My continuing gratitude towards all of my customers. And a heartfelt shoutout to my sister, Aithne, and my husband, Chris. I literally could not have done this without you. And for those of you who enjoyed his music, I’ve included Chris’ social media contact information (he plays for contra dances, participates in Irish sessions, and he’s a fabulous singer. He’s one of my inspirations for making jewelry). Rhinebeck was an amazing event. It’ll take me a couple of days to update and list everything on my Etsy shop, so DM me with requests or questions, and check my shop periodically: https://bialopadindesigns.etsy.com. Oh, and let me know if you’d like to join my mailing list. And thanks to suggestions from visitors to my booth, I’ve got a list of new items to design and make over the next year, so stay tuned. tired but happy

The first day at Rhinebeck has come to an end. You bought the yarn and the roving wool. You succumbed to the lure of a spinning wheel. A spinning wheel or***ce hook or one of my patented cable needles might come in handy. You made the sweater or shawl. Maybe it is time to buy color coordinated earrings, or a shawl pin to secure what you created. If you took the Portuguese knitting class, perhaps you’d like a decorative inlaid wooden Portuguese knitting pin. Stop by my booth, B building, booth 32 (on the left, in the window), say Hi, and consider the options!

And Day #1 at the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival (aka Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool) has come to an end. Lots of repeat customers wearing items they’ve purchased from me in the past (I love this tradition, and feel so honored). New customers excited to find exactly what they were looking for. And the knitwear/crochet fashion parade! So many gorgeous garments! We’ve already got a list of our favorites, and I’ve added to my list of requests for new items. Lots of folks buying gifts or shopping with friends. It was a long day, but the day flew by so fast. Fiber festival customers are the best! You’ll find us in the B building, booth 32 (in the window on the left), tomorrow 9am - 4pm. Stop by and say Hi! NYsheepwool

We are heading up to Rhinebeck tomorrow morning, to set up for the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival. We’ll soon be ready to enjoy the best knitwear/crochet fashion show of the year. My sister and I will have our notepad ready to make a list of our favorite patterns in order to inspire our next projects. Oh, and of course we will be offering shawl pins, Portuguese knitting pins, spinning wheel or***ce hooks, my patented cable needles, and a wide variety of jewelry and home decor. Stop by my booth to say Hello! NYsheepwool

Day #6: 17.49 (!) miles, Rocamador to Le Bastide-Murat. Not our favorite day. Basically it was a slow and steady ascent (80 flights according to my friend’s Apple Watch), much of it on tarmac, gravel or small rocks (perfect for twisting ankles). But we made it, and our BnB host is lovely. And we have arnica ointment and Advil…
