Origin of Name & Mythology: Aquamarine, or blue-green beryl, derives its name from the Latin for “sea water”, due to its colour. Other beryls include emerald and morganite. In the past, aquamarine was believed to improve the memory, and to change colour to reveal true or false, and friend or foe.

Aquamarine promotes spiritual growth and psychic development, especially clairvoyance, as well as inner stillness and expansion. It can lift the spirits, helping us to feel happy and relaxed, yet without lethargy, so we are still goal-orientated and dynamic. It brings clarity in confusion, and helps us to organise our thoughts and ideas. Carried through from the Middle Ages, it is still believed to encourage us to "speak our truth". It aids balance on all levels, including hormone, mood and energy balancing. On a physical level, it supports the immune and auto-immune systems, and is particularly useful in treatment of diseases of the thyroid. For centuries it has been purported to improve eyesight, and is still used in this manner today. Aquamarine crystal water (fresh, without preservative) can be use to treat diseases of the eye.

This crystal is very grounding and protective, but does so with a gentle, friendly energy, so is good for those who find more confining or structured grounding crystals uncomfortable to work with. It is an excellent pain reliever, especially for back problems, as it also strengthens the spine, and is frequently used in combination with malachite and carnelian for this purpose. It can dampen electromagnetic stress, block geopathic stress, and acts as a mild antidepressant.

Smoky quartz is useful for letting go of old unhealthy attachments, including people, places and situations, and is useful in treating addiction. It is also helpful for the end of a relationship or in cases of bereavement.

Rhodonite is the "non-violent communication" stone. It facilitates mutual understanding and strengthens friendships. It helps to solve conflicts in a constructive manner, and to remain clear and calm even in extreme situations. It is an excellent "first aid" stone for both emotional trauma and physical injury, and with care can help to support and treat those with heart conditions.

When working with clients who have experienced abuse in the past - particularly those who have been abused as children, it helps them to come to terms with the abuse, release the pain, and acheive a level of acceptance. This is even more effective when used in combination with larimar and aquamarine to help release the accompanying fear and anger, and help find a positive way of expressing it.
