Rings always make me nervous because of the sizing. Band width makes a difference and fit varies.

A beautiful ring with a beautiful aircraft. I made this lovely ring in between fires for a friend and have been toting it around Oregon since waiting for a chance to ship. It’s “cotton candy” which is a composite made with Kingman Turquoise set in sterling. Coming to you this morning from a helibase in gorgeous Spray, Oregon. Be safe out there friends. Fall can’t come soon enough for those of us out west.

A customer wanted these horseshoe studs and told me she’d find a necklace to match. “No problem,” I said, “I’ll make you a matching one!” So, here’s a dainty little set.

My middle step-son graduates high school this year. This simple and dainty Kingman turquoise set will be available at auction for the Brookings Harbor High School Safe and Sober taco night fundraiser happening on May 9th at the Elks Lodge. Who doesn’t like tacos?

The flower studs are labor intensive … here are some process pictures.

First, I cut small, sterling discs.

Then, I hand stamp each disc to begin to form each petal.

Each petal is sanded with files to create a more realistic look. I use a combination of different needle files to separate and shape each petal individually.

For ten pairs of studs, I do this twenty times.

I’ll post more of the process once I get through this handful …

REAL TALK

This is not my normal content and I thought long and hard about making this post.

Last year silver was in the $30/oz range. When I started silversmithing about 7 years ago, it was $13/oz.

Silver is crucial for solar panels, electric vehicles (EVs), electronics, and AI hardware, with demand projected to grow. There’s several factors driving the price but this is part of it.

I own another unrelated business where I hand make a product that isn’t made of silver. Thankfully our material costs have not seen these increases. But, it’s pretty tough for the silversmith community when our raw materials have tripled in price.

I will continue to look for creative ways to bring you pieces that are affordable but this is one reason I have been making very basic items, like the stud earrings, that I can continue to offer at lower prices.

We’ve been really accustomed to buying silver at rock bottom prices for a very long time. Unfortunately, silver is going to continue to rise for now.
