Did you know natural Moissanite is actually more rare than diamonds in nature?

Moissanite was first discovered in 1893 by French scientist Henri Moissan while studying a meteor crater in Arizona. He originally thought the crystals were diamonds, but they were actually a rare mineral called silicon carbide. Because natural moissanite is so incredibly scarce, nearly all moissanite used in jewelry today is lab grown. This allows jewelers to create stunning gemstones with the same chemical and optical properties without needing to mine the tiny natural crystals found in meteorites or rare geological deposits.

Many people are surprised to learn that the “moissanite” they see in stores today is not mined from the earth, it’s actually carefully grown in laboratories to recreate one of the rarest gems known.
