It's the 1870's, and you are in India or Thailand riding an elephant with fellow travelers in the outback with only your rifle and a .36 C**t revolver for protection. Your rifle is too long to use in close quarters. Your C**t revolver is too small to kill large game. Black pumas and Bengal tigers don’t want elephants - they want you. How do you defend yourself?

You choose the pinfire Howdah pistol.

This pistol shoots a .455 cartridge out of a 14 1/4" rifled barrel on one side and a .455 shotgun shell (.410) out of the other.

It was made in Germany and possibly Belgium or France, shortly after the U.S. civil war (1860 - 1891). Then, it was shipped to Prussia and proofed there. We know this because It bears the Crown over V proof, indicating it was viewed and passed a proof test at Proof House per Prussian law. This test occurred up to 1891, then the proofing process changed.

If you were carrying the pinfire Howdah pistol, your fellow travelers might not be too happy with you waving around such a large pistol, but it gives you a fair shot at surviving a Bengal tiger attack.

You'll find this piece, along with 40 other historically significant black powder and relic fi****ms in our collection.

Have you ever seen a music box that plays records? This rare antique Regina 15.5" double comb music box has a sound that fills the room!

This Regina Music Box is in great physical condition especially considering it's age. It dates between 1890-1910.

It's been cleaned and oiled at our shop and now plays very well on a single wind. All of the expected functions work properly. Very little overall wear to the body, though there are some minor scratches and dings.

Original paper disk chart is present in lid, along with the original crank.

Will include pictured record as well as 20 additional discs all in varying but good condition (some may require slight attention to play through as is expected with this type of player.) Additional disks are readily available online, as this was a popular model.

Antique Porcelain Blue Transferware Copeland & Garrett Feeding Bottle \ Pap Bottle.

A blue and white transferware Copeland and Garrett, Late Spode Tower pattern baby feeding bottle, c. 1833. It is marked to the underside. This piece is in immaculate condition, does bear an upstate NY museum collection index number in ink on the reverse. Purchased from a collection that was divesting a portion of its archives. These are Very uncommon here in the US.

These bottles, that resembled the shape of a banjo, eventually acquired the nickname “murder bottles”. There is evidence that babies have been fed by bottles, cups, jugs or other devices for thousands of years..

For example, hollow cow horns were used to drink in the Middle Ages and with a small bit of soft leather attached, the cow horn was often used to feed babies.

Also across parts of Europe in the 1600’s leather, wood & pewter flask shaped bottles with screw tops were common and some are still surviving today.

The early designs had a common theme of poor hygiene and could more often than not be ‘less than clean’. Milk that was contaminated (unpasteurized) and a lack of understanding about the diet needs of a baby contributed to an alarmingly high rate of infant mortality in children under 2 years old.
