The City of Borger extends its deepest gratitude to all the individuals and organizations who worked tirelessly to protect our community during the Double S Wildfire.
To our brave first responders—firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, emergency management coordinators, and dispatch teams—you exemplify courage and dedication. Your swift action and coordinated efforts ensured the safety of our residents and kept the fire from causing catastrophic damage to homes and businesses.
We also want to recognize the heavy equipment operators who worked alongside fire crews, creating crucial defensive lines to contain the fire. Your hard work in challenging conditions played a vital role in saving lives and property.
A special thank you to Xcel Energy and their lineman for quickly reducing risks for our firefighters and for mobilizing crews from Oklahoma and New Mexico to expedite power restoration. We also appreciate the quick response from AT&T, as well as Sparklight, for repairing phone lines, internet lines, and equipment as quickly as possible.
To the regional agencies, neighboring fire departments, and mutual aid teams who answered the call for assistance, we are profoundly grateful. Your collaboration and support remind us of the strength and unity within our extended community. All for one, one for all!
We also appreciate the shelter staff who provided safe havens for our evacuated residents, as well as the countless community members who offered support, shared resources, and adhered to evacuation orders and safety guidelines.
To our media outlets, we are so thankful for your consistent coverage and updates! This helped tremendously in our communication efforts.
Thanks to this extraordinary collective effort, no homes were lost despite the fire threatening over 1,200 residences. This is a testament to the strength, resilience, and teamwork of all involved. This outcome could have been so much different...
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting Borger!
