Plume Handmades

Plume Handmades Handcrafted sterling silver & stone jewelry. Inspired by nature, crafted slowly by hand. Brigid Pickett is the heart & the hands behind Plume Handmades.

It's silver & stone jewelry that is thoughtfully and delicately crafted by hand. Plume Handmades was named for a flowering shrub native to the southwest. The desert plant and silver jewelry have aspects that are both delicate and intricate, yet simultaneously resilient and strong. The plumes of this plant are made of wispy silk-like strands. This plant thrives in the scorching sun—grown to last. P

lume Handmades jewelry is slowly and gently handcrafted; strengthened by flame and force. Made of silver and stone. It's a dance between delicate and strong. And it’s damn pretty.

I’m excited about this one. 🌸 I hand formed & soldered the wire flowers, created little bezel cups for each one to have a turquoise center, & I connected each flower together. It’s got a chain extender so it’s adjustable to fit your wrist. And it’s coming in my next small batch release! Saturday May 30th at 10am mst. Although I wouldn’t mind it if this one doesn’t get swooped up because I love it so much.

It’s been a little bit since I’ve made a pair of Primrose earrings. And I changed things up with these ones. This pair has a couple of stunning alexandrite gemstones that are blue or purple depending on the way the light hits them. They’ll be coming in the next small batch. Saturday May 30th at 10am mst!

I’ve had this big beautiful Royston Ribbon turquoise stone for a handful of years now. Its sister stone lives in a bolo I made for my husband a few years back. I finally turned this one into a ring & she sure is pretty. Royston comes straight from the Nevada high desert dirt. Brown & tan with a ribbon of blue. Set clean & simple & comfortable. Size 6.75. Coming in my next small batch release! Saturday May 30th at 10am mst.

I made some turquoise & silver blooms to wear around your neck.

I can’t seem to get the dirt out of my fingernails these days & I don’t mind it one bit. We’ve been spending just about every spare moment outside working on getting our garden growing. One project seems to just unfold into the next & each project somehow becomes bigger than the last. I’ve got most of my cut flower starts in the ground, besides a few trays of some new-to-me varieties of zinnias, cosmos, statice, & asters still growing in the green house.

I went to a local rock yard & picked out a handful of the purdiest stepping stones I could find & made a few pathways through my big garden. I planted lots of creeping thyme between the stones to eventually cover up any blank space. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s sure gonna be pretty when everything is in full bloom come summer time.

Our most recent project was covering up a big swath of grass in our front yard & turning it into a new bed. I did some Russian roulette seed sowing in there with a whole bunch of old leftover seeds from the past couple seasons. It’ll be exciting to see what takes off.

I’ve also decided this is going to be the year of the pumpkin! So I just started a whole bunch of funky squash seeds too.

Now I just sit here patiently & let things grow. In the meantime I’ve gotta learn how to take all of these flowers I’ve planted in the ground & turn them into a teeny tiny cut flower business.

Morning friends! Hope your weekend’s been wonderful. I have a new passion project in the works that I’ve been wanting to share with y’all. 🤓 As you likely already know, I love flowers & I’ve loved growing them from seed for the past few years. This year I’ll be growing cut flowers that my friend Jess will be offering up at her sweet little shop in Hyde Park.

There are so many reasons why this new flower project is lighting me up. I’m excited to share something more that I love & care about with my community here in Boise, I’m excited that by doing this it might encourage a person or two to begin growing their own garden, & I’m also excited that all of this will invite more bees, butterflies, & pollinator friends into our yards.

I also hope to tie this into my jewelry business one day soon. Maybe by packaging up your jewels with a lovely little dried flower. Or by gifting you a small packet of flower seeds with your order. I also have dreams of offering up flower starts to folks in my community next year or somewhere down the road. I’m thinking easy to grow, but absolutely beautiful flowers that you can plant in your own garden. Starting up dreamy varieties that you won’t find at the local nursery.

Part of me feels absolutely bonkers for thinking I can do any of this on our less than a 1/4 of an acre lot. But also a part of me realizes that this isn’t supposed to be some big flower farm operation. This is just me sharing a little bit of my backyard garden with my community. Chaos & weeds & kids & dogs & bugs & bees & flowers galore.
