Working on a design for a Desert Shield / Desert Storm knife. Foxtrot Company was a Marine Corps surgical field hospital deployed in August 1990 and returned home in April 1991. We had a great crew that got even bigger when Kilo Company joined us in January. I've wanted to engrave a commemorative knife for FOXTROT Company but have just never made it a priority. Recently one of the Hospital Corpsmen from the company asked about such a knife and that is what started me on the design process. The Palm tree and swords are the logo for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is the same design on the Medal. The Caduceus will have a FMF Shield around it and the entire knife needs a border around it. This is a Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark knife. The back will have my name, Rank and maybe job title. Yet to be determined. So I'm calling this Draft 3 (first two have already been eliminated). What do you think? Oh and Swords might be in 22K gold.

I had a great visit with my old Navy buddy, John Stacy yesterday. That's John in the back row, third from left (right next to me). John's a BIG Memphis fan so I engraved this "gentleman's" pocket knife for him.

Finally back to work. After 5 months away from my engraving bench I just finished a Spyderco Byrd knife. The combination of selling a home, moving across the country, buying and moving into a new home were the reasons for the long layoff. Even after my studio was set up I could not start right in on projects. I found that I had been off for so long that I needed to practice for awhile just to get strength back into my hands and to get the feel for engraving. This knife was just what I needed to get back to work. I love Spyderco steel and feel very confident in cutting the stainless steel. This Soldier is transferring on Monday so it was a rush job for a farewell gift. Hope he likes it.

Todays latest engraving work. A beautiful pendant for a Sweet 16 birthday gift. A very delicate piece of silver that required a very light touch with the graver. All hand cut lettering.
