It was started in the early 1930’s by Jack Kehoe, a man with enough vision and determination to establish a business making jewelry and cutting Mo

ntana agate during the height of the great depression. From the past to the present, this tradition continues today. Kehoe’s still sells Montana agate along with beautiful jewelry in gold, platinum and sterling silver, all set with colorful gemstones. We specialize in Montana’s famous cornflower blue Yogo sapphire, as well as, the sapphire found in the Philipsburg area. A wide variety of natural stone carvings, petrified wood bookends, minerals and fossils from around the world can also be found in the store. We hope you can visit us in Montana one day soon.

In early 1800’s England, Opals gained a reputation for bad luck after Sir Walter Scott’s novel ‘Anne of Geierstein’ linked the gem to tragedy. The superstition spread through Victorian society, and remains today after almost 200 years.

It is completely acceptable to buy your own Opals nowadays. While it was once believed to bring misfortune, modern gem lovers (including us) celebrate Opal for its beauty, rarity, and play-of-color.
