Hi everyone! I’ve been sitting back and not baking much since I closed up the shop at the end of December but as I move forward on some new thoughts and ideas I have one very, very important question. When you dream of red velvet cake does that cake have a cream cheese frosting, a light fluffy vanilla buttercream frosting or, and please impress me here, a vanilla ermine based frosting? Answers needed and much appreciated! 👇

Open Wednesday-Friday, 7-1pm this cold, cold week and Christmas Eve, 8-1. There will be plenty of these old family recipe Butterhorns available for all of you fanatics. If you haven’t tried one yet, this is your chance. I’m going to focus this final week on the items that are the tried and true favorites. Buy a box to take home and freeze. They are a wonderful treat to pull out of the freezer whenever that craving hits and if you order a box ahead of time I’ll even individually wrap them for you.

A huge thanks to Bob Quinn for spending local and hiring me to create cookies for his mega birthday celebration this weekend. Bob wanted to feature Kamut flour ( he had a bit of a hand in the development of this grain from discovery to its current world wide availability- look him up and learn some great stuff) in the products he was feeding to his guests and he tasked me with creating an assortment of cookies made using only freshly ground Kamut as the flour. I have always enjoyed baking with this ancient grain as it tends to adapt very well to most recipes in place of either all purpose or bread flour. I tweaked a few recipes I created and have already been using, like the raspberry pecan bars and the molasses ginger cookies using his whole grain Kamut flour, and developed a butter shortbread base using the white Kamut flour, coming up with these almond drops, chocolate ganache drops and the festive peppermint candy cane cookies. Happy Birthday Bob!
