A staple in our vintage watch shop today we feature a rather rare example of a Vacheron & Constantin 4073. This example features a case manufactured by Croisier. Georges Croisier is most notably known for his creation of 3 of the 4 steel examples of Patek Philippes reference 1518. His contribution to the reference 4073 is mostly seen in the references steel examples and few of the two tone steel and pink gold 4073's. This is one of the few examples that I have seen where he manufactured a 4073 completely in precious metal.

ABOUT THIS WATCH:

MANUFACTURER: Vacheron & Constantin

REFERENCE: 4073

YEAR: 1946

SERIAL: 29###x

CASE: The 34mm 18kt pink gold case is in good shape. The case was manufactured by Croisier. The case has polished in the past. The hallmark on the midcase remains intact. The case is signed 2x and is matching. The crown was replaced in the past.

DIAL: An original engraved enamel dial. The maisons signature "Vacheron & Constantin Geneve", the subsidiary seconds markers and the open railroad minute track were done in engraved enamel. The dial has been cleaned in the past. It presents spotting sporadically throughout and some discoloration between the 8 and 9 o'clock hour markers.

MOVEMENT: Vacheron manually wound caliber 453. This is the base version of this caliber which matches the year of the watches production and correctly does not have a swan neck regulator. The movement demonstrates that the watch was imported to United States for Retail. It demonstrates Vacheron's finishing prowess that they had come to be known for by the mid twentieth century is on full display as we see a myriad of finishing techniques including cotes de Genève, pearlage, anglage and black polishing. The watch just returned from service and comes with a one year warranty.

Italy has developed a reputation for their premium leather goods now for decades. Rest assured this strap is of the highest quality.

The Vacheron & Constantin reference 6087.

Manufactured in just 36 examples total this was the Maisons first waterproof chronograph. As you all are well aware I'm a time only guy but there is something simply undeniable about these mid twentieth century "dress" chronographs that parallel extremely well with my personal taste and aesthetics.
