I am blessed with tirelessly working Guardian Angels. I would love to hear how your Guardian Angels are by your side đź’–
Did you know your guardian angel is closer to you than your own breath?
Saint Thérèse did not treat this as poetry. She believed it as reality.
The Church teaches that God appoints an angel to guard each soul. Not only in danger. Not only in childhood. But throughout the whole of life. In prayer. In work. In weariness. In the hidden duties no one sees.
Thérèse trusted that Heaven was near her even in the ordinary rhythm of the day. As a child she composed this prayer:
My Angel Guardian, cover me
With thy protecting wing.
With thy sword drive far from me
All evil and all fear.
When the night comes dark and deep,
And I must close my eyes in sleep,
Watch beside my little bed
Till morning light is shed.
Guide my steps through all the day,
Help me love and help me pray.
Carry my poor heart above
To Jesus full of love.
She understood something profound. We are never unaccompanied. Even when unseen, even when unfelt, God’s providence stands guard.
May we walk today with greater awareness of that nearness.
St. Thérèse, pray for us.
