Fall fish stocking numbers are in! Fisheries staff in the Michigan Department of Natural Resources stocked 648,557 fish (8.6 tons!) at 76 locations statewide, supporting future fishing opportunities and helping bring the 2025 total to nearly 19.5 million fish stocked across Michigan waters.
Seven species were stocked this fall: Atlantic salmon, brook trout, brown trout, lake trout, rainbow trout (Eagle Lake and steelhead strains), walleye and muskellunge.
Hatchery stocking highlights ⬇️
Marquette State Fish Hatchery (near Marquette): 27,915 fall fingerling brook trout and 250 adult brook trout stocked at 27 Upper Peninsula locations.
Oden State Fish Hatchery (near Petoskey): 140,366 fall fingerling rainbow trout stocked at four locations in the Upper and Lower peninsulas.
Thompson State Fish Hatchery (near Manistique):
3,008 Great Lakes strain muskellunge stocked in Lake Hudson and Thornapple Lake
329,085 fall fingerling steelhead stocked at six locations
Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery (west of Kalamazoo): 64,532 fall fingerling steelhead stocked in Crystal Lake.
Harrietta State Fish Hatchery (near Cadillac): 17,548 brown trout and 24,520 rainbow trout stocked at four locations.
Walleye stocking by fisheries management units ⬇️
Southern Lake Michigan Management Unit: 33,580 Muskegon strain fingerlings stocked at 20 locations.
Central Lake Michigan Management Unit: 2,507 Muskegon strain fingerlings stocked at three locations.
Northern Lake Michigan Management Unit: 5,211 Little Bay de Noc strain fingerlings stocked at five locations, including fish raised with help from the Bay De Noc Great Lakes Sportfishermen.
