The Bible wasn’t written in some imaginary world. These were real places, real kingdoms, real people—and many of those lands are still at the center of world events today.

Canaan. Persia. Babylon. Aram. Phoenicia. Asia Minor. Cush. Sheba. Edom.

Different names. Same part of the world. Thousands of years of history connecting Scripture to places that still exist today.

The more you understand the geography of the Bible, the more the Bible starts to come alive.

Save this for reference—and follow Shields of Strength for more biblical history and truth.

When Satan tempted Jesus, he didn’t just threaten Him—he offered Him things that sounded appealing: food when He was hungry, protection, power, kingdoms. He even quoted Scripture.
(Matthew 4:1–11)

That’s what makes temptation dangerous.

Sometimes the thing trying to destroy you will look like the thing trying to help you.

It will tell you, “You deserve this.”
“Nobody will know.”
“Just this once.”
“God will understand.”

Jesus didn’t defeat temptation by trusting how He felt. He answered it with truth:

“It is written…”

Know God’s Word well enough that you can recognize a lie—even when it sounds like someone cares about you.

There’s something sacred about knowing someone is lifting your name to heaven… and you’re doing the same for them.
That quiet, mutual prayer?
God sees it.
And I believe it makes Him smile big.
Pray for the people you love.
And let them pray for you.

They fear leaving too soon.

They fear the phone call their son makes one day when life has beaten him down… and Dad isn’t there to answer.

They fear their daughter walking through something that breaks her heart… and not being there to remind her how valuable she is.

They fear missing the weddings.
The grandchildren.
The victories.
The failures.
The ordinary Sunday afternoons nobody realizes are precious until they’re gone.

A father doesn’t necessarily pray for a long life because he’s afraid to die.

He prays for more time because there are people here he loves more than himself.

More time to teach them.
More time to protect them.
More time to apologize when he gets it wrong.
More time to tell them he loves them.
More time to show them what it looks like to follow Jesus.

One day, every father will leave his children.

Until then, be there.

Put the phone down.
Make the trip.
Throw the ball.
Have the conversation.
Say “I love you.”
Tell them about Jesus.

Because someday, what seemed like an ordinary day with Dad may become one of their most treasured memories.

“The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!” — Proverbs 20:7

God, give us enough days to finish what You gave us to do—and enough wisdom to stop wasting the ones we have.

Some people will never understand how much they meant to you.

They didn’t fix everything. They didn’t have all the answers. They simply showed up when life was dark and carried enough light to help you find your way again.

God has a way of sending people into our lives at exactly the right time.

Never forget the ones who carried a lamp for you.

And when you see someone else sitting in the dark, be the one who carries the lamp.

“Let your light shine before others.” — Matthew 5:16
