The new shop is finally a reality. As many already know, I’ve moved my tools home to be able to take care of my wife as she struggles with the later stages of early onset Alzheimer’s. So unfortunately I’m no longer taking commissions. But that also means I’m free to tinker and enjoy the space while Laura hangs out with me. I may not be churning out exciting new work, but the bench is still my happy place. And I’ve always done it for myself anyway. Now my comfort zone is only steps from my back door and my best friend can share it with me. Maybe I can fully get to some of those “me” projects that have lingered in my safe. #1911 **t **tsaa

Most of you know by now that I’ve stepped down from my teaching position at the GRS Training Center in order to be home with my wife who was diagnosed two years ago with early onset Alzheimer’s. In my last year I developed a C**t Single Action Army class the covers the fundamentals, tips and tricks of engraving the SAA and other revolvers. It was a great success and in order to serve those who couldn’t make it we enlisted FEGA and C**t Master Engraver Brian Powley to take over in my place. Brian has been a friend and mentor over the years and I can’t think of a better replacement. Asking with being an all around great guy , Brian is an experienced engraving instructor and has a wealth of knowledge to pass on. I highly encourage anyone interested in learning more on the subject to make the investment in yourself and grab a spot in this class. There are tools that you might hesitate to purchase because what you already have is “good enough”. Here are two simple tools that I wouldn’t be without. GRS makes the best dividers on the planet for engravers and jewelers. No wobble, replaceable carbide tips, dead accurate. And this simple little heavy brass stone cup from Ring Genie has become a great friend at the bench.

The GRS Training Center is closed for the year! It’s been a great season. Here are some scenes from this year’s classes. I truly believe we offer one of the best facilities on the planet for learning the art of engraving, jewelry and stone setting, and fabrication. Walking into class in the spring is like going home for me and I love seeing all the repeat students. Next year I’ll have a couple of new classes in the works to challenge my more experienced students as well as my usual basic courses.
