Designed by CB favorite , it was a piece I instantly fell in love with and purchased for myself. Easy to layer, yet striking on its own. I often turn the clasp forward and swap out the pendants—though most days, it holds an antique locket engraved with my initials.

‘So… what is Czech glass?’

Recently, this question has been popping up quite a bit, so let’s step back in time & explore the fascinating history of Czech glass beads…

Originating in the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic, these beads have a rich heritage dating back centuries. Bohemia has been renowned for its glassmaking since medieval times, but it wasn’t until the 16th century that the Bohemian glass industry truly flourished, thanks to the discovery of new glassmaking techniques and the patronage of royalty and nobility.

During the Renaissance period, Bohemian glassmakers pioneered the production of intricate glass beads, which quickly gained notoriety across Europe. These beads were highly sought after & prized for their quality, craftsmanship, and vibrant colors.

In the 19th century, technological advancements revolutionized the Czech glass industry. This allowed for mass production of glass beads, making them more accessible to a wider audience.

Throughout the 20th century, the Czech glass industry continued to evolve, and despite many challenges, the tradition of glassmaking persevered, with Czech artisans continuing to produce high-quality beads prized by designers, collectors, and enthusiasts around the world.

Today, Czech glass beads are still cherished for their beauty, versatility, and rich cultural heritage. From traditional designs to innovative styles, Czech glass beads continue to inspire creativity, keeping the legacy of Bohemian glassmaking alive for generations to come.
