ilton was established in the United States in 1913. It was run by Isadore Lakein, and later, along with his two sons, David and Samuel. At one time, there were four Baltimore locations, as well as one in Florida. The family continues to run the Hamilton location at 5400 Harford Road, which was opened in 1934, the same year that Samuel Lakein married Gertrude Gerstein. The last location, to recently close was 515 South Broadway in Fells Point. In the end, this location was run by Bessie Lakein, David’s wife. Bessie ran the Broadway store, along with her brother David Tissenbeum, and Zona Boltralik. The Broadway store closed the same year Bessie died, 2005. Currently, Lakein’s Jewelers of Hamilton is run by Warren and Marilynn Lakein, along with their daughter Marcia Lakein Snyder, Graduate Gemologist.
