Lakein’s Jewelers of Hamilton was established in the United States in 1913. It was run by Isadore Lakein, and later, along with his two sons, David and Samuel. At one time, there were four Baltimore locations, as well as one in Florida. The family continues to run the Hamilton location at 5400 Harford Road, which was opened in 1934, the same year that Samuel Lakein married Gertrude Gerstein. The l

ast location, to recently close was 515 South Broadway in Fells Point. In the end, this location was run by Bessie Lakein, David’s wife. Bessie ran the Broadway store, along with her brother David Tissenbeum, and Zona Boltralik. The Broadway store closed the same year Bessie died, 2005. Warren Lakein retired in October of 2021 from running the Hamilton store which is currently operated by his daughter, Marcia Lakein, Graduate Gemologist.

Today's the day I get the key so the construction of the new store can begin. Bittersweet is the reality of the situation. The fire forced us out of our beloved Hamilton. But, as 4th generation of my family business, I will continue to represent the commitment to the community by my caring, honest service in this new space.
