There are a lot of new faces here so it’s time for an updated introduction!
Hi friends! 👋 I’m Mimi and I’m the owner and maker of Mimi’s Origamis, an Austin-based jewelry brand that creates handcrafted origami pieces using traditional Japanese paper 🇯🇵
I’m a Japanese-American maker, a mother, and lover of tiny things. I’m originally from NYC, where I spent my childhood immersed in the arts doing ballet, playing piano, singing, and enjoying crafts.
My mother taught me origami in early childhood and it was one of the ways I stayed connected to my Japanese culture. It gave me comfort whenever I made big life transitions, and after becoming a mother myself, I felt myself longing for its familiarity. It was through teaching my son how to fold paper cranes that the idea for Mimi’s Origamis was born! My first design was the Double Crane Earring, which represents the unique bond of a parent and child.
Each piece is hand-folded out of traditional Japanese washi paper, which is then sealed with a protective glossy finish. I use 14K gold fill which is hypoallergenic and tarnish-resistant✨
Through each hand-folded piece, my wish is to share the beauty of origami and the peace and good fortune it represents to the wearer.
