“Look for the helpers. You can always find people who are helping.” -Mister Rodgers
There are entire families being murdered while you and I rest snug in our homes. Children being ripped apart by bombs. Mothers with babies nestled in their wombs being killed.
The weight of what is happening in Ukraine is sitting heavy in my guts and yet, that weight is nothing compared to what the people of Ukraine are being forced to carry. A trauma that I hope to never face.
Imagining the fear that must be coursing through every parents’ body as they try to find a place of safety for their children.
I cannot.
It feels too real of a possibility. Because although water may separate us, we are human. We are made from the same flesh and blood. And by pure luck of geography alone, I am safe tonight.
“We belong to each other”, as Mother Teresa said. A fellow human suffering, is our suffering.
I am embarrassed to admit that I have not considered how multitudes of innocent men, women and children have be killed in the crossfires of wars gone past. It felt less complicated before, because the people on the soil that we were on didn’t look like me. But it happened none the less. It’s the cost of war they say.
The pain of the world continues to crack me wide open. Friends with parents hanging onto life in hospital beds. Strangers, whom I’ve never met who’ve lost a child to cancer. Humans being killed for power and money.
I am but one person, but I know that there are so many of you whose hearts feel like mine.
Since February 25th, you all have helped contribute a total of $510.52 to Together Rising] with an additional $465 to be matched, bringing it to a total of $975.52 and that is not nearly enough to save the world, but I know that when we all do what we can, collectively we can do big things. Thank you for being a helper.
has 5 pairs of sunflowers left and after they’ve sold out we will continue to donate 15% of each pair purchased to Together Rising] for as long as they are collecting funds for Ukraine.
May we all continue to try and be a helper that others can look to in a time of need.
