One of Mexico’s most iconic gold coins, the 50 Pesos Centenario, was first struck in 1921 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mexico’s independence from Spain. 🇲🇽

The design is packed with symbolism. The reverse features Winged Victory (La Victoria Alada), inspired by the Angel of Independence monument in Mexico City, with the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl rising behind her. The dates 1821 and the coin’s mint year honor Mexico’s independence and the year the individual piece was struck.

• Face value: 50 pesos
• Contains 37.5 grams (1.20565 troy oz) of pure gold
• Gold fineness: .900 (90% gold)
• Total weight: approximately 41.67 grams
• Diameter: 37 mm
• Originally introduced in 1921
• The design became one of Mexico’s best-known gold bullion pieces.

According to Banco de México, production was suspended in 1931 and resumed in 1943 because of strong demand for gold coins. The Centenario remains highly recognizable among collectors and gold investors today.
