PARKING‼️ Parking is available on the venue grounds for $15 per vehicle, which goes to support the Townsend Area Volunteer Fire Department. Arrive early to access the best available on-site parking. On-site parking is limited. Courtesy carts move throughout the parking area to transport guests to the Admission Gate. However, the number of carts is limited and wait times may be necessary.

Some nearby property owners offer off-site parking, which is not affiliated with the Smoky Mountain Scottish Festival and Games nor does the festival provide transportation to or from those parking areas.

Most people have never heard of James Gregory. But in 1663, this Scottish mathematician from Drumoak, Aberdeenshire, designed the first practical reflecting telescope — a breakthrough that laid the groundwork for every powerful telescope that followed, including the designs Isaac Newton would later refine. 🔭

Gregory published his design in a work called Optica Promota at just 24 years old. He went on to become a professor at the University of St Andrews and later the University of Edinburgh, and he made foundational contributions to calculus, infinite series, and astronomy. Scotland gave the world one of its greatest scientific minds, and history barely whispered his name.
