Omega Constellation ref. 396.1060

Omega introduced the Constellation in 1952 as a showcase for its precision chronometer work, named for the observatory trials where its movements earned top accuracy honors. The caseback carried an engraved observatory medallion beneath a field of stars, which became the line’s signature and is still the clearest mark of an authentic Constellation. In 1982, Omega reinvented the collection as the Constellation Manhattan, adding a fully integrated bracelet and four “griffes,” the claws that secure the bezel and give the watch its distinctive profile. Roman numerals engraved on the bezel, a clean minimalist dial, and a slim case followed, bringing a dressy, jewelry-like look to a collection built on chronometer credentials.

Reference 396.1060 is the GMT variant of Omega’s Constellation line . It keeps the Manhattan-era look of an integrated steel bracelet, griffes, and an engraved Roman numeral bezel in a 34mm case. It adds a dedicated 24-hour hand that tracks a second time zone, a practical complication that was uncommon in Omega’s quartz Constellations. Cartier Santos WSSA0029

With a rich history dating back to 1847, Cartier debuted the what we know as the Santos in 1904, when Louis Cartier designed a watch for his friend, the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who wanted to read the time without taking his hands off the controls. It was one of the first wristwatches ever made for regular use, and its square case with exposed screws has stayed recognizable for over a century. The Santos de Cartier carries that original design forward, with a square bezel secured by eight exposed screws, a fully integrated bracelet, and the QuickSwitch which allow you to change straps without tools.

This example is the WSSA0029, a stainless steel 35mm medium model with a silvered opaline dial, black Roman numerals, and blued steel sword-shaped hands. A faceted spinel sits on the crown, and the watch is protected by a sapphire crystal.

Grand Seiko Heritage SBGX261

Grand Seiko dates back to 1960, when Seiko set out to build the best wristwatch in the world, judged by accuracy, durability, legibility, and beauty. In 2017 it became a fully independent marque, but its philosophy has never changed. The 9F quartz caliber, introduced in 1993, is the clearest expression of it: a quartz movement built with the same care as the brand’s mechanical watches, accurate to ±10 seconds per year. The Heritage Collection carries the classic Grand Seiko design language, with sharp, distortion-free mirror polishing set against a satin-finished case.

This example is the SBGX261, a stainless steel 37mm model with a matte black dial and applied indices. The date sits at 3 o’clock, under a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Jules Jurgensen Spaceman ref. 46617/7

Designed by Andre LeMarquand as the follow-up to his hugely successful “Spaceman,” the Audacieuse arrived in the mid-1970s and took the design in a new direction. Where the original echoed an astronaut’s helmet, the Audacieuse trades the rounded form for a straight-lined, trapezoidal case inspired by spacecraft, with a bold, angular profile that is unmistakably Space Age. The Catena Watch Company produced the model for several brands, including Zeno, Omax, Kotana and Jules Jurgensen. All variants were offered with either a 17-jewel manual-wind or 25-jewel automatic movement. This example is the manual-wind version.

This Jules Jurgensen is set in a stainless steel and black PVD case. The off-white dial uses a crosshair pattern in place of traditional indices, and an orange-clad sweeping seconds hand adds a bright contrast against the black and steel. Rolex Datejust ref. 116234

The Datejust dates back to 1945, when Rolex introduced it as the first self-winding chronometer wrist watch to display the date in a window on the dial. Rolex has refined the formula ever since, but the essentials have never changed: an Oyster case, a Cyclops lens over the date, and a fluted bezel that has become one of the most recognizable shapes in watchmaking. The 116234 belongs to the modern generation of the Datejust 36, produced from the early 2000s until the model was replaced by the 126234 in 2018. It pairs a stainless steel case with a white gold fluted bezel, a combination that gives the watch its bright, refined look without the price of a full precious metal piece.

This example wears a blue dial with stick indices, but the real standout is the roulette date wheel: the date numerals alternate between red (odd) and black (even), a feature Rolex has used on the Datejust since the 1950s, a detail that collectors still seek out today.
