This repurposed piece was reworked from the ground up, melted down and forged into a new ring with diamonds that my client saved from earrings she once owned. Reworked into a new nature inspired ring ❤️♻️🌿

Community at the core of what we do :)

We are midway through the Teen StART UP entrepreneurship program with Arlington Parks and Rec and it's been a great experience! A second cohort starts in April and it's open to Arlington County teens in high school. This past week we talked about pricing and your worth as an artist. 🎨🎭

This free program is part of a grant from the DOJ and is designed to teach students foundations of creative entrepreneurship. Each week, we cover topics and engage students in art projects and culminates in deliverables and events. Its really exciting to see how students apply their talents and turn their art into a creative business while learning essential skills!
One of the most important things that artists and crafts people of all ages can take away from experiences like this is knowing and charging your worth.

Repurposed and custom made pieces by Metal & Stone Creations

The opal and 3 diamond accented gold ring was custom made from scratch and the gold band with blue and green sapphires was made from repurposed gold, from pre-existing jewelry, melted and reworked into a new piece:)

Together these pieces make a cool stacking set that sparkles bright 💫

With silver costs soaring (past $110/ ounce) the best thing I can recommend for clients is to repurpose your silver. As a traditional metalsmith, I work with existing pieces, melting them down and rebuilding them to something unique and personal. Silver has always been an investment, and now that rings true more than ever.

As a teacher, I emphasize skill building. Master the craft, whether you create as a hobby or with the intention of selling. Adding value to your work with the application of stones, refined finishes,and design considerations, elevates your work and helps you turn your creative ideas into reality.

In my classes, I teach technique, and I also cover things like production and what to consider when selecting stones, different types of settings for cabochon, and faceted stones, among other skills. Learning metalwork teaches perserverence, patience,and adaptability. In addition to all that, working in a community space is a great place to learn from peers, get some input, or just hang around and chat while you work.

Stars and galaxies, nebulas and births. The inspiration behind this piece is about exploring the birth of a star.

I kept building onto this one: many diamonds, sapphires, and gold. Granulation, water casting, reticulation, and flush settings.
Precious materials and traditional techniques.
Ten years of metalwork and I still feel like Im learning something new every day.
