I was on the phone with my dad - he’s still in Vietnam, and he was telling me about this woman and child he saw on the street, and wanted to give her money. People were telling him not to, so he didn’t, and he told me the fact that he didn’t, bothered him for 2 whole days. So, he went back to find her and when he did, he gave her money, and the first thing she did with it was go to a fruit stand to buy fruit for her child. When I was there, I watched him overpay for things and hand out money to people who needed it, and he told me how important it is to give when you can. And I just think, how lucky am I to have been raised by a dad like this?
He’s a person who survived war, escaped Vietnam by boat, at 14 with just his brother, starved within an inch of his life, lived in a refugee camp, and rebuilt his life in America. Someone who has been through so much hardship, but is still always smiling, giving and caring. I know I share about my dad a lot, but I want you to know that this is a person who is making and repairing your jewelry. Your ring was cast into gold, in our studio, by my hardworking, refugee immigrant dad, who cares SO much about you.
